Families come in many shapes and sizes, all of which are valid and deserve nurturing and care. Most families also experience difficulties communicating from time to time or struggle to find ways to cope with life's challenges.

TRAUMA

Many people have experienced some kind of traumatic event in their lives and for some that experience turns into an ever-present struggle. Trauma can get lodged in our brains when we do not have the opportunity to process the experience properly. Traumatic events can be a wide variety of different things, such as experiencing a natural disaster or serious accident, losing an important person suddenly, being exposed to abuse or violence, or receiving a scary diagnosis.

Luckily the brain is a very plastic organ and there are effective ways to address and re-process traumatic events to significantly reduce symptoms of distress. It is one of the most meaningful parts of my job to be able to listen to these extremely vulnerable stories and to get to share in the process of re-writing and transforming them together with my clients.
